For the past few weeks (post Into the Woods craziness) I have been feeling kind of transitory and empty. This past weekend has been way busy and awesome!
Saturday:
I began interning for Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat at YADA. It was fun. I am not yet on a regular interning schedule, but it was nice to get the ball rolling.
I had a lovely Mommy-Daughter outing after that. We had yummy lunch at the Grove and then went shopping a bit. It was nice.
HERE'S THE BIG NEWS! That night I went with seven of my friends to... ROCKY HORROR PICTURE SHOW MIDNIGHT SHOWING AT THE NUART. It was unbelievable. The whole time I had a ridiculous toothy grin on my face in utter happiness. My friends came over early and we all got dressed up together. You should have seen my room. It was like the Sunset Strip exploded on my floor. Makeup everywhere. Corsets, lace, and leather all draped over everything. It was quite a sight.
Fishnet central.
My dear dear mother whom I adore very much drove us there and back (at 11 and 3:30, god love her). I haven't even processed the amazing-ness of that night. I smile and get shivery thinking about it. It was so epic. I even got a battle scar! I was showing off my lace skirt and twirling, and I fell in a plant and cut my knee. It was embarrassing, yet hilarious.
Pre-battle scar. These are my legs, in case you were wondering.
If it's your first time at RHPS, they call you virgins and mark you up with lipstick. I got off really easy. They just put a heart on my chest (like the one Brad puts on the door in Dammit Janet) and a "V" on my cheek. One of my friends got full lipstick facial hair and another one got "sex" written on her forehead. She was so embarrassed.
Woohoo! Can you feel the excitement?
The MC was hilarious and all of the pre-show activities were so much fun to watch and participate in. It was a thousand times more fun to watch the movie with the callbacks and actors on stage. I cannot wait to go back soon.
Sins of the Flesh cast at the Nuart Theater.
I'm just a sweet transvestite from Transexual Transylvania.
When we got home, we were all so wired that we hung out and talked on the roof all night. I guess it didn't help that we started our night at 12 and it just got more exciting from there. After my "brother" Ethan left, my friend Allison and I slept for a little less than an hour, but all in all, I pulled an all-nighter.
Sunday:
I wanted nothing more than to sleep all day, but I went to intern and then I went shopping with my best friend, Lauren, cause it was her spring break. We had so much fun. She got two really cute dresses and we saw our friends, Adam and Val, and talked to them for a bit. After I left her, I went to my step-grandma's house to swim and have dinner with family and friends. It was fun, but I was a zombie. I made it home and collapsed in bed for fourteen hours. It was blissful and well-deserved.
Monday:
Pesach! (Also known as passover, for you goyims out there). My dad hosted a big seder which was very fun and I ate myself into oblivion. My dad made the most heavenly brisket I have ever tasted in all my life. It was so tender, I couldn't serve it without it falling apart. I made delicious chocolate-covered matzah with sprinkles on top.
My brother, Charlie, loved my treats.
(Left) My dad's delicious homemade chicken soup with tri-colored matzah balls. (Center) AMAZING BRISKET. I have been eating the leftovers for days. (Right) My dinner plate. Note the matzah croutons...
My dad made his own Haggadah from scratch. The Haggadah is the book everyone follows along with during the seder that has the story and the prayers. He included tons of pictures from Cecil B. DeMille's Ten Commandments. He also had songs like "Food, Glorious Food" and "Clementine" with new words relating to the seder. But the best part by far was the page about the Four Sons. My dad used pictures to illustrate each son. The wise one was HARRY POTTER, the wicked one was DRACO MALFOY, the simple one was RON WEASLEY, and the one who does not know how to ask a question was my baby brother, Charlie. I almost passed out in my chair.
I love me some matzah. And baby smiles.
Charlie and Nana before and after dinner. Night-night!
Comatose the morning after. As it should be.
Tuesday:
Bright and early in the morning I drove over to Lauren's house. We painted her room light purple and dark purple and it turned out so well. Her dad helped us and taught us how to do things, but we did the majority of the work. It was so much fun. There's nothing like the feeling of doing hard labor and then seeing the results pay off so well. My hand is still sore from the roller, but I am very happy! The room looks so pretty and I think Lauren and I are going to start a painting business. Just kidding! Fooled ya...
Before and after. Yeah, we rocked it.
We approve of our work. Yes, Lauren is hugging the wall.
After we finished, we went swimming in their pool, which was mostly fun, except that we found TWO dead animals in the pool. A gopher and a lizard. It was so sad and gross. It was so much fun to hang out with her and I can't wait to see her again. LOVE YOU BABY!
Wednesday:
The CHSPE results were posted online. I PASSED! I did really well. I am so proud of myself. I feel more complete now. It's nice.
If anyone is interested, the next test is in mid-June, and if you are on the fence about the decision, I recommend you take the test. It's fairly easy, and you only have to worry about it for three hours and however long you study and it can only help you. There's no downside. It qualifies as a high school diploma. The website is chspe.net and you should check it out!
Bye y'all!

So one of my favorite things to say is "life is good"...because it is good...so of course I LOVED your post title and post. I stumbled upon your blog this morning. Serendipity? I am a mother who unschools...and I think life is good. Your blog made me happy this morning...down deep happy. How wonderful it is to see someone appreciating the important things, like Rocky Horror and making cakes. You are clearly a rock star. Sometimes it takes adults their whole lives to see what is important in life...sometimes they never do. You already do. Yay you!
